Sirius Satellite Radio?

If I were to buy a sportster 5 radio on a 3 year subscription, and after the 3 years are up it renews again for another 3 years, what would happen if the radio quit working or broke 1 month into the new 3 year subscription? Would I lose the remainder of the subsciption since I'd have to by a new radio? Or would that 3 year subscription carry over to the new radio since the other radio broke?
