92 ford falcon wagon manual - clutch is stiff and gears are hard to change?

I've noticed lately that i have to push the (squeaky) clutch right to the floor before i'm able to change gears(5 speed), and then its hard work to get the shift stick into the next gear. A friend recently borrowed the car and said it was a sticky clutch, and another girlfriend said it was a real work out to drive my car. Do you think its the clutch or the gear box. Someone also mentioned gear box lubricant or oil or something. I'll take it to my mechanic, but i just wanted to test out your knowledge and suggestions. Thanks so much
